The election of Donald Trump as the president of the UnitedStates provided the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu with a goodopportunity to follow up on his regional plans and projects. After Trump withdrew the United States from the JCPOA, many political rivals ofNetanyahu changed their opinions about him. For example, after US quit theJCPOA, most polls indicated that in case of new elections, Likud Party, whichis led by Netanyahu, would be able to win 35 seats at the Israeli parliament,the Knesset. Netanyahu’s later trip to Oman further boosted such views. However,a two-day aggression against the Gaza Strip followed by Netanyahu accepting acease-fire with the Palestinian Hamas movement provided a good opportunity forhis rivals to undermine his policies. In addition, involvement of Netanyahu andhis wife in a corruption case revolving around financial corruption and briberyhas further lowered Netanyahu’s standing within the Zionist regime.
